Word UK have announced the launch of a new imprint called Focus. The new label is intended to be a "home for the best contemporary Christian music in the UK and Europe today" and will initially be the launchpad for Phatfish, RiverDeep and Norway's Salvation Street who make their UK debut at this year's Greenbelt festival. The label will be headed up by Word UK's music manager, Shelley Needham and will be launched with a gig in Milton Keynes on August 31st. There seems to have been renewed investment in the UK scene from several major players recently, and the launch of Focus comes soon after news of Alliance's signing of Kindle and ICC's launch of their Elevation label.

Our new featured album (formerly 'indie of the month') is Carbon14's fab new EP Focus. The EP follows Detached and Connected, the band's debut, with a slightly more varied sound but still retains the band's core alt.rock/power pop stylings. As usual we have MP3s and RealAudio for your listening pleasure and as a special bonus this month three lucky winners will receive not only a CD copy of Focus but also a copy of Detached and Connected along with it. Things have been a bit quiet around here, haven't they. Don't worry, it's not that we've forgotten you, but rather a combination of work on the long-promised new-look Britlinks [getting closer each day, and now very near] and a trip to Genoa where I was helping keep dropthedebt.org up to date. To catch up on that visit http://www.dropthedebt.org/liveatgenoa/ and check out the discussion at sarahmasen.com/discuss/. From tomorrow we hope to be adding new stories as usual. There's quite a lot of news to catch up on so don't forget to check back.

With the addition this morning of triflesky and Jewels the band index part of this site now contains over 500 listings. We're trying to develop them to include photos and biographies -- please bear with us as this takes quite a while, and if you're in touch with any of the bands listed on the site, it'd be good if you could encourage them to send us their bios. Also, if you know of any other bands or solo artists we should be listing please do get in touch.

With around four weeks to go before the start of the 28th Greenbelt festival, the festival website has been relaunched with a new look and a new section called 'Insight' which will operate as a form of webzine, with stories submitted by visitors and regular writers and then approved by an editor, and the facility for visitors to comment on and discuss those stories. Ticket sales are still strong in the build up to the festival and the festival has just announced that all the campus accommodation which was available has now been booked up (don't worry, there'll still be plenty of camping space). Check out the site at www.greenbelt.org.uk.
