Greenbelt Huge Success (30th Aug)

This year's Greenbelt Festival which ended on Monday night has been hailed as a great success by organisers and regulars alike. The attendance of 9000 was double the number at last year's festival and the new site in Cheltenham stood up well to some adverse weather conditions on Friday night. This year's festival was also Andy Thornton's last as festival manager. He has decided it is time for him to move on and will stand down as soon as a replacement is found. Anyone interested in the role should contact the Greenbelt office for more information.

Dubious Records Released (30th Aug)

The new EPs from Ant Parker, Andy Thornton and Terry Gonda were released at Greenbelt by Dubious Recordings. The label held an afternoon showcase at the event and promise a number of further releases over the coming months, including a full solo album from Ant, an album from the man behind Sticky Music act Billy Penn's Brother and a Fat and Frantic best of (expected 1st quarter 2001).

Bell Jar Fly On (30th Aug)

Flying Low is the new EP from Bell Jar, released at Greenbelt as a taster for their forthcoming second album which is expected within the next few months. Live MP3 versions of the tracks on the EP are available through the band's website.

Julie Lee Relocates (30th Aug)

American singer-songwriter Julie Lee is relocating to Northern Ireland to work with Steve Stockman. Julie has recently released her second-album Many Waters, the follow-up to Stones and played at Greenbelt for a second consecutive year.

Iain Archer Repeats Album Promise (30th Aug)

Iain Archer repeated his promise to release a new album within the next few months while playing on the main stage at Greenbelt. Iain played a number of sets over the weekend, including a number of low-key solo shows, and debuted a number of new tracks. He also played alongside his brother Paul Archer as part of The Ghears.

Juliet Turner Sells Out (30th Aug)

Juliet Turner continued a successful few months by selling out of copies of her new album Burn The Black Suit before she played her main show at Greenbelt. Selling the album through Sticky Music, Juliet was one of a number of artists who played multiple sets around the festival site. She has also recently launched an official website. The album will be available through a relaunched Sticky Music website within the next couple of days.

Dum Dums Album (30th Aug)

The Dum Dums, who played to a large crowd when they headlined the Friday night at Greenbelt have a new single, You Do Something To Me out on September 11th in 3 formats (2 CDs and a cassette). This will be followed on September 18th by the album It Goes Without Saying. The band have been busy over the past few weeks promoting the single and album through a number of high profile festival, TV and radio appearances.

Booley On The Radio (01st Sep)

Former Britlinks indie of the month, Booley's Bathroom Floor has been selected by BBC Radio Wales for their album of the month this week, just prior to its release to the mainstream market through Universal Records. The band will also be appearing live in session on BBC London Live on Monday as they continue to tour England and Scotland to promote the album's release.

New Indie of the Month (04th Sep)

As you may well have noticed, The Amazing Pilots' Graduate Blood is this month's indie of the month. It's the first release from the band, who recently relocated from Northern Ireland to Eastbourne, but their experience in the recording studio (guitarist Paul Wilkinson is an engineer at ICC studios) certainly shows on this relaxed alt. country influenced release.

Juliet Turner North American dates (04th Sep)

After proving such a success at Greenbelt, Juliet Turner is off for a working holiday in the USA. While there she will be playing three concerts -- Arlene's Grocery, New York (9th September); The Living Room, New York (11th September); and Fremont Centre Theatre, S. Pasadena, California. Juliet plans to return to Ireland for some more gigs during the autumn before returning to the USA for two or three months at the start of next year.

Leeds-based Bodixahave made their way to the final of the nationalUnsigned/Unsealed band contest, having won the online votingand their heat at London's Borderline last week. They nowcompete with the three other finalists at the Borderline onthe 8th September.

Tollbooth Releases on the Horizon (06th Sep)

The second release from Tollbooth Music, Paul Davies' solo album Postcards From Aunt Cordelia is due for release later this month. That will be followed before the end of the year by the second release from Eve and the Garden who returned to their hard rocking roots (they used to be a hard-rock band called Ascent) for their show at Greenbelt, but don't plan to continue in that vein.

Ripcord Seek Engineer (07th Sep)

Ripcord, an evangelistic band who play mainly to students, are currently looking for a full time sound engineer to join them for at least a year. The band have a full schedule lined up for the coming months, kicking off on October 8th at Bristol University and taking them as far afield as Latvia and Slovakia.
