Initial Greenbelt Festival Report (02nd Sep)
Just having returned from this year's Greenbelt I have quite a bit of news to add to these pages. IMHO, this year's Greenbelt was excellent. Attendances are rumoured to be up on last year and the weather held out until around midnight at the end of Monday.

Greenbelt To Continue (02nd Sep)
After months of speculation, and a few months where it looked like even this year's festival would not take place, Greenbelt have announced that next year's festival will be moved to Cheltenham race course and the last weekend in July. The festival promises to keep much of its diversity, but to focus more on whatthe crowd wants and to expand its exploration of the broad spectrum of the arts.

Spring Harvest and Greenbelt announce a FreeState (02nd Sep)
To many a partnership between the obviously evangelical Spring Harvest and the often-thought-liberal Greenbelt seemed an impossiblity, but the two organisations have announced that from next summer they will be putting on a new event, FreeState, aimed mainly at adolescents (however old they may be) wanting a rock/pop festival with a Christian base. A venue and sketch lineup should be announced soon. The event will focus on its music but will aim to involve young people at all levels, from organisation to performance and aims to encourage young people to encounter God through artistic expression.

Greenbelt releases compilation album (02nd Sep)
A 25-year anniversary special at Greenbelt was a compilation CD featuring some of the best acts to perform at the festival over the years. The Alarm are featured alongside Tribe Of Dan, Eden Burning, Split Level and many more. It is available through ICC Music.

Mike Peters' New Band (02nd Sep)
Mike Peters, formerly of the Alarm, and some friends (including an ex-member of The Cult) have put together a new band called Coloursound. The band have a classic/stadium rock sound and on an initial listen sound very promising. Their debut UK performance was at Greenbelt.

Fono album comes around (02nd Sep)
goesaroundcomesaround the first album from Fono (formerly Seven) was released at Greenbelt. The band intend to concentrate on European dates for the autumn before the album release and a tour in the US at the start of next year.

Maroons Make UK Debut (02nd Sep)
A worship-based group featuring Halcyon Days' drummer, Stephen Orr and Iain Archer-collaborator Johnny Parks, were another band putting in an appearance at Greenbelt. Their debut CD was released through ICC at the festival. More details as soon as my copy arrives. Stephen Orr says that Halcyon Days plan to spend the autumn working on material for a new album which should be released some time next year.

Juliet Turner TV Coverage (02nd Sep)
Singer/songwriter Juliet Turner was seen by millions of people on television when she performed at the vigils held a week after the Omagh bombing in Northern Ireland. She was encouraged to release the song she performed as a single but has refused.

Mike Scott Continues to Intrigue (02nd Sep)
Possibly the hardest musician to pin down spiritually, Mike Scott (ex-Waterboys) performed an excellent acoustic set at Greenbelt. At times his lyrics seem close to expressions of Christian faith, but his interest in pagan god Pan continues. He followed the hymn like song "Everlasting Arms" with "The Return Of Pan." A new Best of Mike Scott and the Waterboys is to be released on EMI in September and a new Mike Scott solo album is due around the end of the year.

Jonathan Day's New Album (02nd Sep)
Folk/experimental artist Jonathan Day has recently released a new album. Titled A Spy Like Me it is only available in limited editions and has a hand-written CD sleeve.

Eve And The Garden Keep Busy (02nd Sep)
A new album from experimental group Eve And The Garden should finally see the light of day towards the New Year. The group say the sound has expanded since their debut album in 1996. Also due from this group are various solo efforts, including a midi guitar album from guitarist Paul Davies. A charity single may also appear later this year. Paul Davies has contributed some music to an indie film.

Dan Donovan, Iain Archer, Paul Archer (Disraeli Gears) and some friends have put together a 'loose groove thing' and played at Greenbelt. There is no news as yet on further shows.

Ex-Eden Joins Kato (02nd Sep)
Mike of Eden Burning fame has been playing with Blackpool based Kato for the past year. That band hope to put together a new recording later in the year.

Never On A Monday have decided to call it a day. Their last ever show was at Greenbelt, but they have also recently released their first CD.

Exciting autumn in store for Psalmistry (09th Sep)
Psalmistry have been busyworking on a compilation album to raise money for House The Youth 2000.From humble beginnings, the album is now set to include Fat Boy Slim,Portishead, Fun Loving Criminals, Asian Dub Foundation, Boy George, PeteTony, and Sasha, alongside Hydro, Matt Redman, and, of course, Psalmistry.The album, to be called Streetwise will be launched on 25th Octoberat Ministry Of Sound, London. The group's lineup has changed slightly,with Lucy (back from Storm) and Helen (formerly with S'Dance) on vocals.The group hope to have a new album out in November with distributionthrough the UK and Europe with Word and hopefully distribution furtherafield.
