The H3 Christian Music Festival is a new event launching this year in Milton Keynes. Running over the 22nd and 23rd June 2002, the event is being run as a benefit for the Bridgebuilder trust who work to promote the gospel in the schools of Milton Keynes. Bands booked so far include Kato, Bryn Haworth, As If..., Bell Jar, Cathy Burton, cult Greenbelt favourite Griff Pilchard and a range of others. The organisers promise camping facilities for 300, great food and drink, craft stalls, record/book shop, quiet area, Sunday morning services, and a relaxed atmosphere. Tickets are now available at all St Andrews Bookshops, priced at £15 to the end of March and £25 thereafter. Tickets also available by post from the address in our festivals listings.
In recent months As If... have launched a new website and a new album. In Full Bloom was finally completed in December 2001 after beginning life almost two years before and was released a few months later. The band say that the new release "managed to capture more of the live energy of the band and has a lot more guitar and live drums." They estimate that 100 gallons of tea were consumed in the making of the record.
Ultimate Events, the group behind the annual festival at Alton Towers which we've mentioned before are this year running a battle of the bands competition that has attracted hundreds of entries from unsigned bands around the UK. The prize consists of 1000, studio recording time and an opening slot at next year's Alton Towers event. The guys who run the Halcyon event have teamed up with Ultimate Events to host the the web voting on their website. Sibling report that they have reached the semi-finals of the competition, along with As If..., Exalt, Rain, Frequency and 3 Second Memory.
As If..., who earlier this year released their first album in several years, In Full Bloom, are already making plans to release a live record next year. Parts of the album will be recorded at a gig at Thame Utd. Football Club in February and they hope to have the album ready for release early in the spring of 2003.
